Putting Common Sense to the Test Descriptions

These are sets of true-false questions designed to help students assess their intuitive beliefs about key topics in social psychology. After stepping through these exercises, students will receive tabulated results that show them how their beliefs compare to the findings of social psychology.

Chapter 1 Introduction

NetLab: Is It Science or Common Sense?

Students are presented with questions that have been subjects of social psychology research and are asked to say whether the statements are true or false and to rate the confidence of their answers. The purpose of the activity is to challenge the notion that much of what social psychologists have concluded is just common sense and intuition and to indicate the importance of research. If student answers are typical, they get several wrong and also find that their confidence is negatively correlated to the accuracy of their answers.
