Paths to Action Chapter Six: Education and the Pursuit of Equality
- Investigate the status of Women’s Studies and Men’s Studies programs at your institution or other institutions in your state. How are they similar and different in their mission and focus? If your campus lacks either program, what would you have to do to get one started? If you feel strongly that women’s studies or men’s studies should have a place on your campus, talk with your instructor or other faculty about how one might be initiated.
- Evaluate your institution’s compliance with Title IX. How has your institution opted to reach the equity required by the legislation—by adding women’s teams or reducing men’s teams? You might have to research the history of the university’s actions in order to understand the current situation. Are there any controversies about the balance between men’s and women’s sports? Report back to your classmates.
