Exercise 17.1: When to Use Tests of Statistical Significance

Assume that you are working with survey data from a very small town. One of the questions about political participation was asked of and answered by all adult members of that community. You have confirmed the hypothesis, using data from the town, that level of political participation in town affairs is positively related to length of residence. Would you employ a test of statistical significance for your results? Why or why not?
