Chapter 7: Policy Impact, Evaluation, and Change

Before the class session during which the activity will occur, assign the students a short case study to read (an example would be the airline regulation/deregulation case study at the end of chapter 7; any short but thorough case study will do, though). After the students have carefully read the case study, break them into five groups. Anderson notes that policy impact can be seen across five dimensions. Assign one of these dimensions to each group, and have each group informally appraise the policy according to that dimension. Give the students about fifteen minutes to develop their answers, as they may have to refer back to the case study for specific references. Once the students have appraised the policy, reconvene the class and have each group share their appraisals with the class.
