Master Student-Helping Students Put
the Pieces Together

The tangram, an ancient Chinese puzzle game, is used to create images
by rearranging seven sections of a square into different patterns. The
cat figure to the left was created with the puzzle—hundreds of other images
can be devised by applying an imaginative mind and finding new relationships
and possibilities in these basic geometric shapes.
Just as the tangram allows us to use creative thinking, for many first-year
students learning involves putting the pieces together in as many ways
as they can. The Master Student series provides the basic building blocks
with which a creative and active mind can succeed.
