Houghton Mifflin computerized test banks provide a powerful set of software tools for the creation, administration, and grading of exams tailored specifically for Houghton Mifflin textbooks. For each text chapter, instructors can choose from:- Short answer questions. Most of the short answer questions involve the Key Point references in the text margins. Answers to each question are provided, with page references to the text.
- Multiple choice exams. Numerous multiple choice testing options are provided. Each multiple choice question reflects a Key Point or concept from that chapter and follows the order of the Key Points in the text. Two separate exams are provided for each text chapter. Feedback booklets facilitate the preparation of answer keys for correcting multiple choice exams. Not only are correct answers given, but a complete explanation of correct answers are provided.
- Essay questions. Essay questions are provided with answer guidelines and text page references.

The program consists of two components:
The test administrator is used to:
- Record information about program users.
- Record class and section information.
- Create and store multiple test banks.
- Create and edit test questions.
- Generate tests, using a variety of methods. Instructors can create tests from published test banks or from questions they write themselves.
- Post tests. The online testing component allows instructors to post their tests to a network or the World Wide Web.
The class administrator is used to:
- Record information about program users. Only users with "supervisor" status have access to this area.
- Record class and section information (supports multiple classes).
- Record class rosters, including student personal, login, and password information.
- Define grading categories and assignments. Instructors can create and define the divisions by which they wish to assess student performance.
- Record grades with an easy-to-use spreadsheet. Each student in the current class appears listed on the left, with the instructor's grading categories and assignments listed in spreadsheet columns.
