Downloading the PC PowerPoint files

(Mac User Instructions)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

DOWNLOAD THE POWERPOINT VIEWER TOO...
Even if you do not own PowerPoint software you can still download the slides by using the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer for Windows available for downloading here. The PowerPoint Viewer runs on Windows 3.1 and later, Windows NT 3.5 and later, and on Windows 95. Note: you will only be able to view slides in a slide show format using the Viewer. If you have PowerPoint software installed, refer to your PowerPoint manual for rearranging slides or adding lecture notes and slides.

STEP ONE: Print these instructions

  1. Print these instructions first so you can refer to them after downloading the slides.

STEP TWO: Download PowerPoint slides

  1. Go to your file manager or Win95 hard drive. Create a directory (folder) on your hard drive C:\HILLJONE. Switch back to your browser.
  2. Download now:

    Chapter 1: Download files
    Chapter 2: Download files
    Chapter 3: Download files
    Chapter 4: Download files
    Chapter 5: Download files
    Chapter 6: Download files
    Chapter 7: Download files
    Chapter 8: Download files
    Chapter 9: Download files
    Chapter 10: Download files
    Chapter 11: Download files
    Chapter 12: Download files
    Chapter 13: Download files
    Chapter 14: Download files
    Case Analysis Section: Download files

  3. When the Save dialog box appears, select "Save to Disk." In the window that appears, look for the directory C:\HILLJONE you created and double click on that folder. Click "OK."
  4. The chapter files you selected CHXX.EXE will be copied to your hard drive. You will see a "Saving Location" dialog box.

STEP THREE: Uncompress the files and launch PowerPoint

  1. After the chapter has been saved to your desktop, leave your browser and go to your File Manager or Win95HD. Doubleclick on the HILLJONE folder you created in Step1. Double click on the chapter file you downloaded CHXX.EXE.
  2. You will see your screen go blank and files will be inflated in DOS. At the completion on the inflation, your screen will automatically switch back to your File Manager. (Windows 95 users: You will see a black dialogue box and files will be inflated in DOS. At the completion of the inflation, your screen will read "Finished" at the top of the dialogue box, at which time you should close out the box.)
  3. For Windows 3.1 users, click on another folder outside the HILLJONE folder, then click back to the HILLJONE folder. You should now see the PowerPoint file (CHXX.PPT). (This step is not necessary for Windows 95 users since the .PPT file automatically appears after uncompression.)
  4. With Power Point software, you can open and view each chapter of the slides. Open PowerPoint, then select "File, Open" and choose a chapter. Refer to your PowerPoint manual for specific instructions on addiing lecture notes or rearranging slides.
  5. If you do not have the PowerPoint software, proceed to install the Viewer.

(Note: Because some chapters are too large to fit on portable diskettes after they have been uncompressed, you need to save the files to your hard drive. If you need portable diskettes, please contact your Houghton Mifflin sales representative.)
