Examining Related Evidence: Franklin Roosevelt at Teheran, 1943
This internet activity is based on the Examining the Evidence feature found on page 845 of
The American Pageant, Twelfth Edition. Or you can view the feature
here.
In addition to viewing the minutes taken at a diplomatic conference, historians also examine the official pronouncements made during or at the end of the conference. To investigate further go to the Yale University
Avalon Project to view the official records of what was decided at Teheran.
Use the minutes from The American Pageant and the official records to answer the following questions:
- Identify the three declarations made at Teheran and explain the basic topic and purpose of each.
- What military conclusions were declared about Yugoslavia and Turkey?
- When was Overlord scheduled to take place? What did Stalin promise to do at the same time? When did Overlord actually go into effect?
- Focus of final statement of the Military Conclusions? Why was this point so important?
