Examining Related Evidence: Satiric
Bank Note, 1837
This internet activity is based on the Examining the Evidence feature found on page 273 of
The American Pageant, Twelfth Edition. Or you can view the feature

It is as difficult for students of history to understand allusions in other kinds of political evidence (such as campaign songs) as it is to figure out political cartoons. To explore this problem further, go to the
American Memory Project website and click on Search. Then do a search for the
song, "Huzza! for General Jackson."
Use the song lyrics to answer the following questions:
- Identify three reasons the
songwriter gives for voting for Andrew Jackson.
- Identify at least one
reason the songwriter gives for why people oppose Jackson.
- Approximately when was
this song written? (Explain your answer carefully).
