An overview of the handbook supplements the information found in the handbook Preface
and highlights features of the handbook that you will find particularly useful in the
classroom.
Part II: Teaching Composition to Multilingual/ESL Students: Strategies and Tip Sheets
The ESL section is a valuable resource for any instructors who have ESL students in their
classes but have little specific training or experience teaching ESL students. This section was
developed by Ann Raimes, who has more than thirty years of experience teaching
composition to ESL students and has written four widely used ESL texts.
Part III: Using the Internet in the Composition Classroom
This section is divided into two parts: In the first we
have provided a brief overview of the common Internet programs, or protocols, used to access
the Internet and conduct research; in the second part you will find four tutorials that guide
the student through the steps required to perform basic research operations on the Internet.
Part IV: Diagnostic Tests and Answer Keys
Contains a set of five comprehensive grammar diagnostic exams is included, along with an answer
key and
scoring chart. Also contains an answer key to the numbered exercises in the exercise booklet to accompany
Keys for Writers is also included in this section.
Part V: Transparency Masters
A set of sixty-seven transparency masters is provided. The transparency masters are drawn
from all sections of the handbook and provide key lists and other important information in a
summary format.
