Anna Young Smith
(1756-1780)
Anna Young Smith, a Philadelphia poet, was
encouraged in her poetic endeavors by her aunt, poet Elizabeth Fergusson. Smith
wrote frequently on politics and feminism as well as on the more conventional
subjects of courtship, sensibility, and grief. Several poems were published
posthumously under her pseudonym, “Sylvia.”
