The Educational Resources Information Center: ERIC
The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a national information system designed to provide ready access to an extensive body of education-related literature. ERIC is supported by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Research and Improvement and is administered by the National Library of Education.

ERIC provides a variety of services and products that can help you stay up to date on a range of education-related issues. Products and services include research summaries, bibliographies, reference and referral services, computer searches, and document reproduction.

The heart of the ERIC system is the ERIC database, the world's largest source of education information. The ERIC database contains nearly 1 million abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice. You can search the database online via the Internet, on CD-ROM, or through the printed abstract journals Resources in Education and Current Index to Journals in Education.

International Reading Association
The International Reading Association strives to promote high levels of literacy for all by improving the quality of reading instruction through studying reading processes and teaching techniques. The organization serves as a clearinghouse for disseminating reading research through conferences, journals, and other publications.

The International Reading Association includes classroom teachers, reading specialists, consultants, administrators, supervisors, college teachers, researchers, psychologists, librarians, media specialists, students, and parents.

National Council of Teachers of English
The National Council of Teachers of English is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. Since 1911, NCTE has provided a forum for the profession, an array of opportunities for teachers to continue their professional growth throughout their careers, and a framework for cooperation to deal with issues that affect the teaching of English. The site provides resources and information about meetings, organizations, and publications.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of mathematics. It is a recognized leader in efforts to ensure an excellent mathematics education for all students and an opportunity for every mathematics teacher to grow professionally.

With about 110,000 members, NCTM is the largest nonprofit professional association of mathematics educators in the world. The NCTM offers vision, leadership, and avenues of communication for mathematics educators at the elementary school, middle school, high school, and college and university levels.

NCTM provides professional development opportunities through annual, regional, and leadership conferences and publishes journals, books, videos, and software.

As a professional association, NCTM derives its strength from its members, who are drawn from the broad community of stakeholders in the fields of mathematics and mathematics education. Members participate in the work of approximately 70 national committees and task forces and contribute to all aspects of the Council's work.

National Institute on Student Achievement, Curriculum, and Assessment
The National Institute on Student Achievement, Curriculum, and Assessment is one of five Institutes created by the Educational Research, Development, Dissemination, and Improvement Act of 1994. Located at the U.S. Department of Education, the Institute's purpose is to carry out a coordinated and comprehensive program of research and development. It provides research-based leadership to the U.S. as states and localities strive to improve student achievement in core content areas and work to integrate these areas to enhance student learning.

National Science Teachers Association
The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) is the largest organization in the world committed to promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all. NSTA's current membership of more than 53,000 includes science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, business and industry representatives, and others involved in science education. The site provides news and information, online resources, publications, legislative updates, and news about meetings, professional developments, and awards and competitions.

National Association for Bilingual Education
Promoting educational excellence and equity through bilingual education, the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) is the only national organization exclusively concerned with the education of language-minority students in American schools.

Developing Educational Standards
This site provides standards by state and by subject area as well as links to state groups and other organizations.

The Guide to Math and Science Reform
This is a searchable database with concise information on projects, resources, and organizations devoted to reforming K-12 science and mathematics education.
