Enhancing this foundation are the following new features in the fourth edition.
  1. Strategies for effective money management: New to this edition is a section on making wise choices with money, providing students with strategies on financial planning. There is also a new "Wise Choices in College" article in Chapter 4 called "Effective Money Management."

    To account for the adddition of this new "Wise Choice," the placement of the Wise Choices has changed as follows:

  2. Expanded information about stress management techniques: The section dealing with stress management in Chapter Eight has been changed from "Reducing Distress" to "Reducing Stress." Expanded coverage will help students to understand the nature of stress, be aware of the consequences, and learn strategies for overcoming these forms of stress.

  3. Expanded coverage of Technology: New to this edition are Technology Exercises found in the Wise Choices in College sections of each chapter. These exercises guide students as they practice methods for using computer technology and the Internet for greater success. The Appendix called Using Technology for Success has been updated to include current network information, new technology, and new, updated URL's. There is also a new section on Distance Learning, providing advice for students about learning in an online environment.

  4. New cartoons and marginal quotations, reinforcing the On Course success principles.

The essence of the first three editions of On Course has been maintained:
  1. Short readings about proven success strategies.

  2. Guided journal entries that encourage students to become active, responsible learners as they apply the success strategies to their lives.

  3. Case studies for Critical Thinking offer students an opportunity to apply their understanding of key success principles (like self-responsibility, self-motivation, and self-management) to real-life situations.

  4. More than 150 effective study skills strategies for improving academic success in college, including sections on College Customs, Writing, Reading, Note Taking, Memorizing, Studying, and Test Taking.

  5. "On Course at Work" essays in each chapter, showing students how each On Course principle will improve chances for success in their career.
