Competition: The award is for the most innovative use in a college course of a new educational software called Fingraph® Financial Analyst™ CD-ROM (Houghton Mifflin).


Award: The winner will receive a plaque and an invitation to attend the next Conference on Accounting Education on March 1-3, 2001 as our guest, at which he or she will present the innovation. The innovation will be highlighted in Accounting Instructors' Report.


Software: Fingraph® Financial Analyst™ CD-ROM (Houghton Mifflin, 1999), developed by Belverd E. Needles, Jr., Marian Powers, and Irv Jarett in association with Sensorium Software, Inc., is a multimedia report generation package that analyzes financial and operating data. It utilizes professional software that is used in practice by CPAs and financial analysts, and represents a new type of educational software for the accounting classroom which allows maximum flexibility in designing learning experiences by allowing instructors to tailor the way students use the software. Flexible enough to be used with any text in any course in which students read, use, and analyze financial statements, Fingraph® Financial Analyst™ CD-ROM shows students how real managers use financial information to analyze a company's performance.


Eligibility: To be eligible, applicants must have used Fingraph® Financial Analyst™ CD-ROM in a recent college course.


Application: Applications should include a copy of the syllabus for the course in which the software is used, evidence of evaluation of the learning experience, examples of student reports or output, and a short description and comment by the instructor. The decision of the selection committee is final.
