Instructions: Use the following business periodical web sites to search for an article on a company utilizing an enterprise resource planning system (ERP system). A linked web site article is summarized below as an example.

Sample Article: "Unifi: The Tightening Starts at Home" (Fortune–November 8, 1999)
Little known outside its industry, Unifi dominates a highly specialized niche in the textile industry. Several years ago Unifi recognized that a prime requirement for supply-chain integration is to get your own house in order. In what is now a company-wide program, Unifi has not only automated processes and machines but also has linked them. Manufacturing information can be gathered continuously, consolidated, interpreted, and "exported" to the ERP system to help manage the business.

Extended Research Activities

1. Locate an article about a company's production quality efforts for continuous improvement. Prepare a short report that includes the company's name, its product(s), and a description of its production process. Bring this information to class to share with your classmates. Be sure to identify the article's title, author(s), and publication date.



2. Go to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) site and choose a recent recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Write a short report including the name of the company, the year the award was received, and reasons why the company received the award.



Either print out your answers for submission or email them to your instructor.
